Croatia officially the Republic of Croatia, is a southern Central European country at the crossroads between the Pannonian Plain and the Mediterranean Sea. The national flag denotes the coat of arms and the national anthem is Lijepa naša domovino which means our beautiful homeland. The capital and the largest city is Zagreb, the Official language is the Croatian language. The country was founded in the First half of 7th century, Recognized by the Pope May 21, 879, Elevated to kingdom 925, declared independence on June 25, 1991. The total Area is 56,542 km², the estimated Population of 2008 is 4,453,500 with a Density of 81/km². The official Currency is Croatian Kuna (HRK), the time zone CET (UTC+1); in summer (DST) CEST (UTC+2) with Calling code +385.The country is divided into 20 counties with capital city Zagreb being the city district.

Croatia is a member of United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Council of Europe. Croatia is also a founding member of the Mediterranean Union upon its establishment on July 13, 2008. Croatia is inhabited mostly by Croats (89.9 per cent of the population) with Serbs comprising 4.5 per cent of the total population. The predominant religion is Catholicism (87.8 per cent). The official and common language, Croatian, is a South Slavic language.

The country is very beautiful with idyllic islands, ancient ruins and some serious old-world charm with secluded beaches to Roman fortresses. The country includes seven World Heritage sites and eight national parks. Sports popular in Croatia include football, handball, basketball, water polo and tennis.
